They were definitely glass. I've installed plenty of '83 to '93. Plastic is a good choice though.
Some of us installers wonder if the heavy glass was a good choice by the 'Stang design engineers. Sometimes the plastic ones last as long or longer than the glass windows with the problem of having delamination issues of the topping coming loose from the glass.
