Winter Storage

Winter Storage
I have a storage question. My 01 GT will be stored for about 4 to 5 months over the winter. I have heard different people say different things about starting the car. Some say that since it is fuel injected just park it then start it when winter is over. Others say start it once a month and let it run 10 to 15 minutes. I have a full tank and fuel stabilizer added. What do you guys think?
Thanks

RE: Winter Storage
Just putting it away now!?!?!?!? My car has been away since thanksgiving and won't be returning till the end of March
I start my car every two weeks, let it get warmed up (10-15mins), shut her down, let her cool and cover her back up.

RE: Winter Storage
My 2 cars have been stored since the begining of dec. [&o] Anyway, Start the car and run for 10-20 minutes. I usually run my cars for 10 minutes at idle to warm up, and then stick a quarter between the butterfly arm and stop to raise RPM's to 2k to give it a good run. The purpose of this is to heat up the oil to burn of any moisture in the oil. Are you jacking up the car to prevent flat slots? If you dont jack up the car inflate the tires to around 35psi, to prvent flat spots. You should also diconnect the positive cable from the battery so it doesn't die. I also change the oil before storing it, and change after storage.

If you put your car up on stands. SUPPORT IT CORRECTLY!!!
Support the back of the car with jack stands under the rear axle and support the front of the car by the K-member (the stands will be pretty close together.
Never support the car by its body for an extended period of time or you will create unibody issues.

RE: Winter Storage
i had my stang in storage from October 1st till 2 weeks ago. then i had to get her out.
right off the bat i needed a starter(moisture in the brushes). the battery was still good.
my suggestion to you is if its in a storage unit or a cold garage start it up every other day and let it run for 20 minutes.
otherwise you also could need a starter..(89.bucks)

RE: Winter Storage
I've also heard of putting some baking powder inside the car to absorb moisture so mildew doesn't form. I also like to remove the battery and bring it inside and then install it when I go to warm it up once a month since winter get pretty cold around here.
Also, give her a good coat of wax before you put her away.
