Default Carb caught on fire

I was trying to start a 1984 mustang that had been sitting for 4 years. I poured some gas down the carb and it ran for about 2-3 minutes then backfired and the air filter caught fire. Reacting I shut the car off and sprayed it with water. I let the car sit for about 20 minutes and wanted to make sure it would still turn over but it just ckicks once. Any ideas?

Flooded carb with water putting out the fire? Not a good thing. Make sure you did not flood your cylinders. Remove the carb and spark plugs and make sure the cylinders are not obstructed by fluid.
