RPM gauge stuck
Hey everyone I'm new to this site and would like to see if anyone has had this problem with there rpm gauge, mine seems to stick at 3000 rpm it was working fine but now it seem to stick. I saw a post about this before but no one really responded. From the last post one guy mentioned to check the wire that goes to the coil I would like some help as to where this wire is I think It's one of the wires that's plugs onto the coil, also they said to check the solder on the back of the tach because sometimes they come apart. I was going to change the gauge with another one but would like some advise first thanks.

Hey chrome shadow, no the gauge starts out from 0 and once it's running jumps up to 3000 and sticks there. It was working fine as it should but starting doing this. I have another cluster to replace it with but wanted to see if it's something I can trouble shoot. This is for my 93 lx 5.0 not my 88 vert.

An old field test to tell if a tach was any good was to shake it and if the needle moved then the unit was probably good. If the needle was stuck then the unit was usually toasted.
I know it's not very practical with a cluster mounted tach but just throwing it out there.

Thanks fastback ford for the info I have replaced the instrument cluster and the rpm gauge works fine. So I hope this post helps anyone that has the same problem. I would like to just replace the rpm gauge in the old cluster because all the other gauges work fine I does look like you can just tach out the rpm gauge and replace that only I'll check it out and mess around with it later and then post back up on how to do that unless someone here has done it and can offer some advice thanks. I would like to keep the old cluster as back up.
