I'm not going 3.73 to 4.10, I'm going 3.31 to 3.73.

you will loose 2 mpg going from 3.31 to 4.10

I believe that in 2006 the Mustang GT came from the factory with a 3:55 and in 2007 changed to a 3:31 stock and made the 3:55 an option

The way you push 4.10 gears reminds me of a salesman trying to make a sale. The gas mileage effects depend on the type of driving done (city or highway). There will be more like a 4-5 mpg (possibly more) drop on the highway. However, city mileage won't be effected much.

BULL ****, my buddy with 4.10s in a GT still averages 21-22 mpg, thats better then my stock V6, 4.10s in autos and 4.30s for 5 speeds, stop listening to myths that you may have heard, theres no freaking reason why a 4.6 shouldnt have ATLEAST 4.10s in it

Okay...but for someone like me who doesn't want to drag the thing, and yes, occassionally wants to blow away a rice burner or other pony cars, but still uses it for my daily driver (mostly city driving), isn't 3.73 a good compromise? I'm hearing all sorts of things, from 4.10 is for racers, to 4.10 should be the only option for a machine I'm trying to get more off the line performance out of . Is 4.10 really impractical for day to day use?

21-22 mpg... My manual GT with 3.31s gets mid to high 20s on the highway very easily. I'm not going to get into a highschool arguement with you. Go back to class.

no, 3.73s are good for twin screw and roots blowers, ive driven them with centris/4.10s and if it had something better then the stock goodyear rubber and some suspention work it would of been awsome, 4.6 are not pushrod motors like the old 5.0s or the old muscle cars, they are modular motors and are very free reving motors, people who say "ohh 410s this and that etc, have either a.) had no gear experience, or b.) had experience back in the 60s/70s where the final gear was 1:1 and not .62/.75. hell, even with 4.30s in a 5 speed, you will still have to be traveling 175 mph before you run out of gear in 5th gear

3:55 or 3:73 gears are good allaround gears for hwy driving with the occasional trip to the track. As far as gas mileage my car has 3:55's and all hwy driving, gets 18 to 19.5 mpg

What you using the car for and is it the daily driver....some questions to consider when getting new gears.

ya cause 1 mpg is a big differance

the 4.6 motors are modular motors, which means, they need to rev to make power, kinda like a honda[:'(], 3.73s were great gears for the 302s that had all their torque right off the line, but, this is not a 302, it is not an old muscle car with a 1:1 final drive etc, its a SOHC 281 ford motor with a .62/.75 final drive
