Hey Welshstar - have you thought about adding leather to the existing steering wheel so as not to look so plastic? Might be an idea do search around a little bit.

For the record - I love the steering wheel and dont think there is that much plastic on it?!

Hey Steve - I never thought of that, without the IUP I would probably wanna do something with it as well then!

Try Wheelskins. There are several places that sell the brand.
Excellent quality leather. Usually applies over the old leather, but in your case could be a nice upgrade. $48. + 1 hour of sewing. i used on my 98 gt when the oem got too scabby. lots of colors, but would recomment black since no color will match exactly.

I suggest getting one of the aftermarket interior upgrade packages that come with the steering wheel panels. Much better than getting a new steering wheel and probably cheaper if you install it yourself, JMO.

It shouldn't be to hard. I would think that Ford could do it with less than an hour of labor. Also that way it's a certified person messing with the airbags.

I agree, its against the law to mess with the airbag system so you should consult your local Ford dealer and find out what is the proper way to replace the steering wheel without affecting the airbag.
