Finally made some track runs
After 5 1/2 years, tons of mods, I have finally taken my ride to the track. I just moved to Las Vegas, NV from VA and I'm not a fan of this high elevation. Never been to a track before and it was fun for the most part. My best run was only a 12.9 @ 110mph. But my avg was 13.4 for about 10 runs or so. I've been strapped for cash over the years so the one mod I haven't done at all is bigger wheels/tires or even street radials for that matter. So I'm only running 255/50/17 Nitto 555's all around. Pretty much 1st and 2nd gear were a wash no matter what I tried to do. Just disappointed that 476 rwhp got me a best of 12.9. I think the worst part was my friend who I went with has a 400 whp Evo and he was able to preload his boost and launch on me and his best time was a 12.5. I know we are apples and oranges with RWD and AWD, but I think it's the friendship that makes it a pain in my *** cause I'll have to hear about it.

You just have to get used to tracking her.
You will get better with reaction times and your times will get much better.
Then when you get some good DR's or slicks even you will REALLY cut those times down.
12.9 is a pretty darn good first run buddy.
No worries!
Are they sticklers there when it comes to wearing helmets?
I know some tracks aren't and some people don't take them seriously but
I'm telling you ALWAYS wear a helmet my friend!

With practice and drag radials you should be in the very low 12s
What were your 60 fts.? 2.1/2.3 I am guessing and spinning through 1st-2nd?
I did the same on street tires and ran very similar time to yours, though mine is an auto and pretty much useless in the lower gears on street tires.
With the MT ET Streets it's 12.5@111mph all day long, though with a measly 2.0 60 ft...

Wear a helmet anyways man.
I have seen and heard too many bad things happen when things go wrong and a helmet is not worn.
Your life is not worth "thinking" you are safe when racing a vehicle.
Borrow someone's helmet there until you can grab one for yourself.
That is what they do at our track.
I did track the 06GT AFTER the transmission went out for NO apparent reason and we were out of warranty. I figured
if that can happen then to hell with it I was gonna track it and have fun.
We had a blast modding it too.
But I do NOT track the GT500.
The GT500 still has A LOT of warranty left on it so I don't want to risk that in such a small town. Plus I don't have the wheels anyways to care what my times would be without good wheels.
This baby is staying mod free and track free until the warranty goes out. Which we have the best and longest ESP warranty Ford offers.
After the transmission problem showed up in the GT for NO apparent reason we wanted to make DAMN sure this thing was
warrantied with the BEST and LONGEST warranty Ford had to offer.
I MAY add some different wheels and tires but nothing to compromise the warranty here where we live and the dealership we have.
Heck I may end up just powder coating the stock wheels and keep them on.
Plus the GT500 is just something I prefer to stay pretty much stock other than some MINOR appearance mods MAYBE, like
tiny things such as hood pins or louvers.
I won't lie I do miss modding the 06GT and it can get tempting to mod this one.
But we will NOT be doing it.
That being said, I want this baby original! I love the looks of the GT500 as it is.
And the stock power is plenty enough for me.
(Yes I know you modded GT500 guys will probably rag on me for this haha!), but oh well!
We MAY mod it after the warranty expires but it will only be mods that we can easily take off and return to stock.

Buy these: http://www.brenspeed.com/silverdragp...stomer-reviews
Return to track and easily drop your times. That setup is a cheap, effective way to hook up. Of course, if you're really serious about it, you could always go the fats and skinnies route.

I concur with all the other guys. With you wheel power, you should be pushing toward 11s. Your traction is key.
The nt555 tires are street tires, for track, nt05 (r?) might be your ticket to better times. Also, remember that the s197 chassis is a heavy beast and your buddys car has the advantage of being significantly lighter.

110 mph is good for mid to lower 12s. Not having tires is really hurting you. That should be next mod for sure if you plan to race regularly. I have the brenspeed setup and it rocks. Never a traction issue since.
