New kid on the block
What's up everyone. I recently crossed over and became a man and sold my Honda civic and brought a 02 mustang gt. I'm pretty new to the mustang world but not new to drag racing. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that I will be going back to Hondas very soon. Why? I can't seem to figure out what to do to this thing to make it fast and staying na. First off, my budget is 10000-15000 dollars. Second, I want to stay na and also be able to drive it daily if I wanted to, even though I wouldn't have to. Finally, my hp goals are 350-400 rwhp. My first thought was to do the 5.0 gt swap, but I was told that I would be paying the cost of buying a 2012 gt to do so. So that idea went out the door pretty fast. My next plan was to go with a 4v 5.4 swap with a high compression piston, trick flow heads and full bolt ons. I was then told that I wouldn't reach my hp goals. So basically I'm pretty much at a stand still on what to do to before I say forget it. Oh yea, I like the 99-04 body style so buying something different is something I don't want to do.

if you have 10,000 - 15,000 dollars then why not build an engine and throw some sort of boost at it. Tbh the 99-04 2v isnt exactly the best engine to get power out of n/a. If you want to stay with the 99-04 body style then i would recommend maybe looking at buying a 03-04 mach 1 or 99-01 cobra, and if you're willing to spend a little more then maybe a 03-04 cobra. Maybe a 4v swap? Idk im just trying to throw some ideas out there

Well I'm not a big fan of boost. I really like a naturally aspirated engine. I wanted to do a 5.4 4v swap with full bolt ons and maybe a nice set of heads perhaps. But I was told that I would not make my 350rwhp goal. If I can't then I may consider a cobra swap with boost. But only as a last resort.

I want to get rid of the engine anyway. But I want to keep the car. I can agree that this 2v 4.6 would be a complete waste of time. I just want to know what engine can I swap into my car that can get me to 350rwhp without any type of force induction. Is the 4v 5.4 swap a bad idea?

Without some type of power adder, getting to those numbers is gonna be expensive. It's so cheap to toss a blower on a 4.6L and get to those numbers, why not just do that? You'll be under half your budget and still get your power.

I agree with most here... The 4.6 2v just don't have any humpf and there is no aftermarket support to make it fast without FI.
A 5.4 4V isn't a bad idea actually, it'll bolt right in.
Get the ECU that goes with that mill and you should be fine.
