Motor swap
Wondering what would be a good engine swap with out having to do a heavy mod. I have the original 289 in it right now I have the possibility of a 302 but I was looking for something with more stock power like a 4.6 from a Lincoln mark 8 just looking for suggestions.

If you're looking for more power, I'd go with a stroked 351W. You won't have to change anything except maybe your exhaust (starting at the headers). There should be MANY online how-to's regarding putting a Windsor into a Gen1 Mustang.
Of course we don't know what year your car is yet, but I suspect it's a 67 or earlier, since the 289 only came in 65-67.

Yeah, a Windsor would be a better choice, and if you want fuel injection, there are several nice aftermarket options available to you (F.A.S.T. appears to be the best, but I haven't really researched it that much), and many have throttle bodies that look like carbs to the casual observer, so you can still maintain somewhat of a stock under-hood appearance (and keep your stock throttle mechanism). I'm pretty positive that finding headers for a Windsor in a Gen1 Mustang won't be an issue since it's been a popular swap since the Windsor was introduced in 1969.
You can buy 408 stock-block crate motors at various power levels starting at about $6k, and most reputable builders offer fuel-injection induction systems if that's what you want.
One final note, you may have hood clearance issues with a Windsor because the deck is about an inch taller than a 289/302. Depending on your selection of intake, induction, and air cleaner, you could possibly need a hood with some sort of scoop on it.
If you don't want to deal with the hassle of header fitment and you want to keep your stock hood, you could get a 347 (stroked 302) that puts out considerably more power than your stock engine for a little bit less than a stroked 351w, but the difference is fairly negligible considering you get SO MUCH MORE torque and HP from even a mildly stroked Windsor.
