Default '74 Mustang II

New to the forums and to the Mustang restoring or restoring of any type of car for that matter, but Long story short...My roommate's Dad and I are looking to buy a Mustang to restore. We've just about lined up a 1974 Mustang II. I have a few questions before I go off and buy the car.

1. How hard is it to find parts for the '74 Mustang II?

2. Would the '74 Mustang II be a good place to start for a newbie?

And I suppose that would be all for now. I'm not a complete newbie to cars, I grew up with a mechanic in the house. Both of my Uncles are mechanics and for the most part referred me to this site to ask more Mustang specific questions. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
-Phil

The most important questions are:

1: What is the condition of the car now?

2: What are your intended goals?

The 74's had a few different things than the 75-78's, but all of them can be made into great performing cars that are an absolute blast to drive. Parts are pretty hard to find, but I've assembled a "where to find parts for our cars" list which is a stick post at the top of this section.

The car is in great condition, however it does have some rust problems, the interior has some rips in the back seats and one in the passenger seat, needs new carpet, that is really all the issues I can think of at the moment.

As for my goals for the car. I've been a fan of the mustang my whole life and I really want to bring one back to life, have a nice car to dive around, and turn heads while doing it.

Well my roommates dad convinced me to go ahead and buy the car, we paid $1500 for the car plus $100 for them to deliver it to us and when I can I will upload some picture of the car.

Molded carpet is available, and if you search around you can probably find covers for the seats or maybe seats that aren't ripped from another car.

Does your have the 2.3 4 cyl or the 2.8 V6? Auto or manual trans?

Yeah I looked at the places that you've put on the sticky and found a few that sell the molded carpet as for the seats I've been looking to either buy covers or pay to have them redone not sure which yet.

As for the engine I can only tell you what the Add and the Seller have told me. For I haven't had been able to go and see it in person. its a 302Ci V8 Not sure on the liter. I'll be sure to post more info on it when I get it.

a 302 is a 5.0 but they did not come stock in 1974, they started putting them in II's in 75. If you already have the V8 swap your looking good, because the swap parts aren't cheap.

you'll have to get the car in your possession and then you'll have a better idea of what you really need to do - and of course you need to post pics
