Considering returning to the Mustang stable
Hi. With the dramatic improvements in the 2011 Mustang, I am considering returning to the fold.
My father started my association with Mustangs a Very Long Time Ago, having purchased a '65 coupe, then a '68 coupe, then, lordy, a '70 fastback with a 302 automatic.
I learned to drive on that '70 fastback, which my father kept for about 30 years.
I was a highly impressionable 15-year-old when I first stood behind a neighborhood '70 Boss 302, listening to the WAWAWAWA of the dual exhaust at idle, then watched it do a lauch down the street in front of me. I was hooked.
My first car was a '66 Emberglo coupe (a mess which I resurrected), followed by a '69 fastback, a '71 Grande. Fast forward to the '80s, to a '70 Calypso Coral Mach 1 show car, an '85 carb'd GT, a '91 5.0 LX. I started autocrossing in '89, and even those here can admit that the Fox-chassis Mustangs were mediocre at best in the handling and braking departments.
I left the Mustang stable in '94 (the '91 5.0, modded with custom-spec'd springs and shocks was good but not great) and fell in love with Miatas, buying one new in '94. Since then I've been in myriad cars, currently in an '06Mazdaspeed 6. I still have the '94 Miata (which still looks new and I prolly will never sell), also an ex-Spec Miata, a street-registered but dedicated track day car my son and I share, and a '91 NSX.
I am considering selling either or both the Speed6 and the NSX. The look, performance, and nostalgia of the 2011 GT are tugging.
I'll lurk here for a while and keep my eyes on the aftermarket, trends, pricing, etc., before I make a decision. It will be a very difficult decision to part with the Speed6 and the NSX.
Given that I understand the opinions here will likely be highly biased, I would welcome comments. I assume those on this forum are as friendly (if not more so) than those I have had the pleasure of dealing with on forums for other marques.
Thanks for reading this long introductory post, and I look forward to learning more about the 2011 GT, and driving one soon.

The Stang is calling you. Comeback! I miss my the hell out of my 97 GT. Sure it was the second year of the 4.6 had way less HP than a Camaro. But being young, 20 at the time. The Camaro would have cost way more to insure. The Stang line is getting improvements not far behind the Camaro in every trim level. Even the GT500 is going to get more power, not much but enough to keep the Camaro reigned in. There hasn't been a better Mustang since the end of the muscle car era. Since then every Mustang has been designed by accountants and not engineers until now that is. If I get the job I'm trying to get I will be able to get one.
