Ratings don't lie, everyone besides you loves plate races.
I LOVE plate racing, but I hate worrying about all the drivers making it out of the 'big one' without injury.
The answer to it all is so difficult to find. Nascar needs to come up with a solution that won't put small teams into bankruptcy because they have 10 plate motors that are 100% useless after a rules change. The problem lies within PASSING capabilities. If drivers were given the ability to pass QUICKER and EASIER, the 3 wide racing would last for a couple laps rather than running 20+ laps 3 wide.

its a race i think that there shouldnt be restrictor plates thats like a height limit in the NBA. now bump drafting on the other hand is sumthing that needs to be outlawed immediately. if people were doin different speed then they wouldnt have been in a pack like that. Dale Jr. said it himself.

i love the restrictor plate races, junior may have said that, but he does love the plate races. and your right, the ratings go up on the daytona and talladega, i've been to both, and i highly recommend it to anyone even half way interested in NASCAR. both jr and mikey said that the new rule changes on the cars really slowed them down a bit, but they will get it back together

With the templates they are driving with now, bump drafting could never be outlawed.
The series would be forced to go back to modifying FACTORY cars to eliminate bump drafting. Big ol bodies to punch a huge hole in the air where the fastest motor gets you the win. Won't happen ever again though.
As far as the new rule changes (shorter spoilers), qualifying records aren't being broken, but they are only running .1 to .2 slower than they were at this time last year. I don't recall Waltrip OR Earnhardt JR ever saying the new rules for this season have slowed the cars down at all.
