universal nitrous kit

universal nitrous kit
i know a guy selling a brand new n.o.s. wet kit. he claims its a universal kit and will fit any car, and will work on any motor wheather its a 4,6, or 8 cylinder. this dont make sense being the fact that i thought all applications were made for particular engines since not all engines require the same amount of fuel. seems like an 8 cylinder would take more fuel than a 4 cylinder and i would hate to lean out my motor and blow it up

thats different though cause your injectors make up the difference. a wet kit is programmed to push a certain amount of fuel for your particular engine. like the zex smart box.

1) the size of the fuel jet
2) the fuel pressure
(yeah, there's a little more to it than that, but that's the basic version)
There are many calculators out there that will tell you what size jets you need depending on the fuel pressure, HP desired, N2O pressure, etc. As long as you have the proper size jet for the proper fuel pressure, you'll ahve no problems. You would be able to use it on any setup.

so basically any wetnitrous kit out there is universal and could be used on any car?

But if you're going for a real simple wet kit, then for the most part they are universal. By very basic, I mean the bottle, solenoids, lines, jets, nozzle / fogger, arming switch, and WOT switch... drill a hole, place the nozzle, wire it up, and fire away.

i guess the only way to tell if you have the proper jet size to achieve the proper fuel pressure is by dyno tune huh?

If you look on your fuel rail you should see a valve stem sticking up from it. Not sure about all cars, but on the 5.0s it's typically on the passenger side near the front of the engine. That's called the schrader valve. You can usually hook a fuel pressure gauge up to that valve to determine what your fuel pressure is.
Once you know your fuel pressure, you use a calculator to determine what size nitrous jets and fuel jets you need.
Here's a link to an example of a calculator.
Using the above link as an example, lets say your fuel pressure was 40. Now lets say you wanted to gain 100 HP with a wet kit. So punch in 40 for fuel and 100 for nitrous. Then look below and you will see the proper jet sizes. In this case, you would use a size 0.047 nitrous and a size 0.028 fuel jet. Lets say you then changed your mind and wanted 125 HP instead. Using the same calculator you see that you would need a 0.053 nitrous and a 0.032 fuel jet to obtain 125 HP.
Using the first example (the 100 shot.) lets say that for some reason your fuel pressure is 45 instead of 40. because the pressure is higher, it would force out more fuel. So to compensate, the calculator tells you to switch to a smaller fuel jet (0.027.)
Think of the "jets" as a fuel injector. If you have more pressure, more fuel will be injected through those jets. The jets don't control the fuel pressure...they only control how much fuel actually gets through them.
You can buy jets at most places and they are usually cheap. i think I paid like $3 of $4 per jet for my setup.
Also, calculators are not universal, so if you are using a NOS kit, use their charts or calculator. If using Nitrous Express or ZEX, use theirs.
Make sense?
