2000 v-6 shakes violently when idling

I never do trial and error fixes, a vacuum gauge is about 5-10 bucks and will give you a lot of info on the state of mechanical parts in your engine. You can run up a big bill replacing stuff that is perfectly good, and even make things worse by incorrectly installing a part, installing the wrong part, or breaking the part. nk they are blamed for a lot of problems.

Ok, I changed the plugs and the wires. Now the car is running horribly its stopping and sputtering and shaking worse than ever.

I have a 2000 3.8L engine mustang the engine vibrates also when on idle at the light. But it's only do that every now and then and it's also run rough when it does that at first it gives me a code the air pump is not working so I've change the air pump it didn't do the work. I've change the coil, plugs, wires and fuel pump still doing the same thing. I need help guys. Thank you

I did pull the wires all. at once, but i followed the order given on top of the coil pack. Plugs and wires went in fine. The only thing that was questionable was, seating the #4 wire. All the others, I could feel the pop, but this1, because of the tight space and the angle, I could never feel lt pop in. It's got to be the wires. I gapped the plugs at .54. I did get the vacuum gauge but I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Yep, swapped the wires to the proper firing order and voila! It's almost back to normal. A slight vibration still but not bad. I will try out the vac guage next and possibly change out the coil pack. Thanks for the help!

See my last post in the thread below on how I finally fixed the engine vibration on my 2000 Mustang 3.8L V6.
