Meet the Mach 40 Mid-Engine Mustang

The Mach 1 Mustang and the GT40 are two very, very different ways of making a Ford go fast. They’re both legendary in their own way for their own reasons and really don’t have anything in common… Well. They didn’t have anything in common until now.

This car is the work of Eckerts Rod Shop and has been dubbed the “Mach 40.” Now, it would be an egregious sin to hack up the body of an old GT40 for the purposes of a SEMA show car. Instead they fit the mechanicals of a 2006 Ford GT into the shell of a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang. Admittedly, that shell had to be modified and stretched out a bit, but it still looks like a Mustang. Only now, it’s a mid-engined, supercharged, 850hp, one-of-a-kind beast.

While the body is old, the technology is not. It has traction control. It’s also flex-fuel capable. There’s even a dial that lets you control how much horsepower it makes (600 to 850hp).

As far as mid-engine conversions go, this one is pretty decent. A lot of times mods like these ruin the proportions of the original car and are just plain ugly. While this one isn’t exactly like a Mach 1, it still manages to look good in the flesh.
