Mustang Boss 302

The 1970 Boss 302, for most, is the pinnacle of Mustang design. And this one might be the nicest in existence!

With most cars, especially legendary ones like the Mustang, it’s hard to pick a personal favorite. There are just so many great iterations of America’s pony car, how do you choose just one? But for us, it just doesn’t get much better than the 1970 Mustang Boss 302. From the unmistakable, unique styling cues to the legendary powerplant, few cars pack this much history and distinctiveness in one package. And even fewer are as nice as this Calypso Coral example we spotted over at The Collector Car Network.

It’s a testament to the quality of restoration this legendary pony has been treated to. But like most of these race cars for the street, that wasn’t always the case. The second owner held on to this Boss 302 for three decades, using it as both a daily driver and weekend cruiser. But then it sat, as older cars often do, for twenty years until it was discovered and returned to its former glory.

Thankfully, that job was completed with a keen eye toward originality. While we’re certainly fans of mods, a car this amazing and historically significant just doesn’t need any. Everything, from the optional shaker hood to the satin black wiper arms, is correct. The vastly underrated 302 looks like new, and it’s surrounded by fresh tags and decals. Heck, there’s even a correct Sta-Ful battery topper under there.

So it might not be Grabber Blue, which is our personal favorite hue on the Boss 302. But otherwise, this Mustang would easily top our dream garage list. Built in a time when manufacturers actually adhered to the “race on Sunday, sell on Monday” mantra, you’d have a hard time convincing anyone there’s a Mustang more significant than this one. But it’s still fun to hear people try!
