2018 Mustang Bullitt Leaked, Thanks to The Rock

A Ford Video Shoot Featuring The Rock Gives Us a Glimpse of the New Bullitt

It makes sense that Ford would want to capitalize on the 50th anniversary of Bullitt with a new special edition Mustang. As you can see in the NEO Auto video above, now we’ve pretty much got confirmation of such a car. And it’s all thanks to The Rock.

The classic Steve McQueen movie features one of the most iconic car chase scenes in history. In the film, McQueen’s Frank Bullitt pilots the venerable Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT 390 fastback. Back in 2008, Ford released a Bullitt special edition Mustang for the film’s 40th anniversary. It remains one of the best looking S197 variants. Highland Green is a winning color, especially when combined with bodywork free of emblems, and adorned with black accents.

The Rock’s involvement all started with the release of the promotional video below. The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, was recently in Detroit to film a new commercial campaign. The promo offers an entertaining look at how a commercial is produced over the course of three days, from the perspective of the actor. It also gives some insight into what goes into a production of this caliber. There are hundreds of people involved, with intricate sets, and tons of equipment.

CHECK OUT: What Forum Members Are Saying About the New Bullitt

At about the 3:08 mark of the video, there is a scene where directors are discussing how the next shot should take place. Behind them is a backdrop showing the new Bullitt Mustang. You can see from the blurry shots that the new car features many of the same aesthetic choices as the 2008 model.

It’s obviously a Highland Green car, with an understated Bullitt emblem on the rear, no horse in the grille, and no fender emblems. A set of black five-spoke wheels sets the whole package off right.

As a 2018 model, it would make sense that Ford would give this car a public debut soon. Still, being a bit cynical, we’re pretty sure Ford included this Bullitt cameo intentionally. If they hadn’t wanted something like this to leak, they would have absolutely covered it up during a film shoot. In any case, good going Ford, this is sure be one heck of a car,
