2024 Ford Mustang First Reactions: Three Good Things, Three Bad Things
Bad – Where are the Michelin Tires?

Special Edition Mustangs trims require special tires. Over the last eight model years, most high-performance Mustangs came with Michelin Pilot Sport series tires (some for street, some for track). However, Ford appears to be moving back into Pirelli’s arms, with P-Zero and Trofeo RS tires visible on Performance Pack and Dark Horse variants. To be fair, Trofeo RS tires are insanely capable track tires, so no real complaints there. But in our personal experience, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are generally superior to P-Zeroes in terms of lateral grip, wet traction, braking, and driving in cooler temperatures.
Bad – Ford Went Full Screen
In the cabin of the 2024 Ford Mustang, there’s both a 13.2-inch touchscreen in the center of the console, and a 12.4-inch digital instrument display. Yikes. While Ford says the setup gives the cockpit a fighter jet feel, it’s only designed to appeal to people who can’t stop watching Tik Tok for long enough to have a coherent conversation. Those people should not be driving. Also, can you imagine how much this is going to cost to replace or repair out of warranty?
Bad – No Physical HVAC Controls
The lack of physical controls for the climate settings in the 2024 Ford Mustang is a huge fail. Requiring drivers to look away from the road to access the most basic of functions is dangerous — and everyone knows it. Now, automakers generally say that “consumer preferences” are behind this unfortunate trend. But that’s no excuse for letting the inmates are run the asylum.
There’s sure to be plenty more news about the S650 Mustang trickling out over the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
