Mustang Found in Derelict Alabama House is in Unreal Condition

Abandoned 1968 Mustang in Alabama.

Steel-roofed 1968 Notchback has been left sitting since the ’90s. Talk about a diamond in the rough.

Abandoned houses aren’t exactly uncommon. It seems like every town has a spooky old place that no one has set foot in for years. Sometimes they sit exactly as their owners left them, like they could come back any moment, even if it’s been years. And sometimes, there’s even a car left behind. As readers may know, we love a good barn find. And that’s exactly what drew our attention to this Birmingham, Alabama house.

According to The Daily Mail, the photos were taken for the website Abandoned Southeast. The photographer dubbed the Alabama estate “The House on the Hill.” The 1970s-era house sits on an expansive lot. It doesn’t take much to imagine this place as being pretty impressive in its day. But that was a long time ago.

Inside, the house has apparently been unoccupied since at least the 1990s, and it shows. Beds sag, ceiling tiles have fallen, and upholstery has become fodder for mouse nests. But in the garage, under a pile of electronic equipment, lies a well-worn but solid-looking 1968 Ford Mustang.

There are only two photos of the car, so there isn’t much we can glean. It’s a ’68 steel roof notchback sitting on ’70s or ’80s aftermarket chrome wheels. The right headlight housing has been replaced with a white trim piece. That’s just about all we have to go on.

Still, the prospect of a well-worn project that’s been garaged for at least 20 years sounds pretty good to us. We’re hoping that regardless of what happens to the house, this ‘Stang finds a new owner who can return it to its past glory. We’ve seen worse looking Mustangs brought back from the dead. Besides, abandoned or not, this one looks too good to send to the crusher.
