Ex-Van Halen Singer to Feature Mustangs at ‘High Tide Beach Party’

Van Halen Sammy Haggar

Sammy Hagar’s seaside bash to include Joe Satriani, Vince Neil, a killer car show & more in Huntington Beach, California, Oct. 6.

We’re supremely confident that if you’ve been around in the last 40 years, then you most certainly have heard of rocker Sammy Hagar — and his impressive car collection. This, of course, is why his High Tide Beach Party & Car Show in Huntington Beach, California, this fall makes perfect sense: killer concert lineup, strong booze, a cool breeze, and a ton of sports cars—Mustangs included, of course. And everyone knows how much he “can’t drive 55.”

The SoCal party will feature some of the hottest cars from a curated collection, including Hagar’s famous 1982 Ferrari 512BB featured in the 1984 music video for “I Can’t Drive 55.” As Mustang owners, we can’t help but show off our beastly rides to anything that moves, so it’s absolutely awesome that attendees will also be able to participate in the car show portion as well.

Van Halen Sammy Haggar

Post-Van Halen Renaissance Man

As the former frontman of Montrose and more famously Van Halen, “The Red Rocker’s” musical history is defined by nothing other than success. However, his musical accomplishments are exceeded only by his ambition for life itself. Hagar owns multiple restaurants and his own brand of Cabo Wabo tequila, and he currently associates with multiple all-star bands, including The Waboritas, Chickenfoot, and The Circle (which will be headlining the High Tide Beach Party & Car Show).

But before all of this, Hagar was a gearhead first and foremost.

“I was into cars before music,” said Hagar in a interview with CNBC. “I would drive my bike 10 miles across town to the Ford dealer to see the first Mustang. I’d go in the back and lift the hoods up.”

Seller’s Remorse

Though Hagar is an admitted Ferrari fan, his 1967 Shelby GT500 recreation (pictured right) is the crown jewel of our affection. Plus, it has an interesting history.

He had an original 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback in his possession for decades, and sold it for $250,000 in 2006 at the 35th annual Barrett-Jackson in Arizona (Ironically, it was recently sold again last year for $110,000). He regretted this decision not long after, and yearned for his old red pony again. So naturally, he got Gateway Classics to build him a Roush-powered replica to fill that void. According to Hagar, it’s got NASCAR suspension, so it corners and handles nicely.

Food will be served by Hagar’s own Cabo Wabo Cantina and Sammy’s Beach Bar & Grill along with plates from Huntington Beach’s SeaLegs. An assortment of cocktails and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available.

“Early bird” pricing starts at $45 for general admission ($55 thereafter) and $65 for reserved seating ($75 thereafter). Tickets go on sale Friday, June 29 at 7 am. Purchase you tickets here.
