This Is How Ford Tests Interior Materials for Durability

Making sure the quality of your interior is up to the task of every day life, Ford has various testing procedures to see that panels, seating surfaces, and other trim parts are up to snuff. Bad quality can be something obvious, such as premature wear, or something you might not consider right away, like an odor from a leather or an insulation material.
In the three videos below, you’ll find out just how Ford goes about testing, including simulated tests for blue jean die transfer, tests to see how easy it is to clean up common spills, and even tests to make sure things don’t snag or rip the interior. There’s also the unique test in the first video which showcases how Ford makes sure the car smells pleasant after it rolls off the production line.
It dawned on me after seeing the video that odor is a very important part of quality. Could you imagine the plastics in your car making the same odor as a plastic shower curtain? Well, thanks to Ford, you can live with a durable, comfortable, and non-shower-curtain-smelling car.
