Mustang Hits 150 MPH During Chase, Loses Police

Blazing down the highway at twice the speed limit is stupid, but maybe it’s time police invest in the Ford Mustang themselves!

Admit it: You’ve had at least one dream in your life where you use your stellar driving skills to successfully ditch law enforcement. Probably right after watching some (fake) action-packed movie. But those kind of dreams are exactly that — dreams. Because in real life, there are serious repercussions for doing stupid things like blasting down public highways at extreme speed, weaving in and out of traffic. But thankfully, one recent, real-life chase involving a Mustang didn’t end in tragedy.

In fact, the driver of said Mustang got away with it. According to the Denver Post, the “older model” Mustang was going around 140 mph down Interstate 70 near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. That obviously attracted the attention of local state troopers, who proceeded to attempt to pull the car over. But instead of giving up, the Mustang floored it even more, topping out around 150 mph, according to Colorado State Patrol spokesperson Gary Cooper.

Cooper also told the Post that the Mustang was going so fast, they couldn’t get a read on the license plate. All they could tell was that the car was “older” and “dark colored.” The straight, flat stretch of road has a bit of a reputation for fatal crashes, so troopers decided to call off the chase. “It’s extremely reckless, especially with people who haven’t been trained to drive at those speeds,” Cooper said. “I’ve seen a deer total a car before.”

Obviously, we don’t pass this story along to encourage you to book your vacation to Colorado and attempt this stupid act yourself. If you want to test the limits of your ride, there are plenty of safe track day events for that. But at the same time, maybe it’s time for local law enforcement to invest in some “older model” Mustangs themselves?
