Ostrich Feathers and Your Mustang

The paint process is one of the most important parts of a car’s run down the production line, and just like everything else up to this point (and after), the car has to be perfect every single time. Your Mustang is no different and it gets a good pampering before moving on to the paint booth via an unusual source.

As you can see in the video below, Ford utilizes female ostrich feathers for making sure all painted surfaces are in perfect condition for a base-coat. A clean surface helps the paint absorb into the primer coating and leaves you without any of those glaring imperfections like orange peel, fish eyes or drips. The feathers themselves pick up and attract dust, dirt, debris, and other surface contaminates, before they have a chance to soil the first application of paint. Of course there are many more processes before the final coat of paint goes on, but none of them would really matter without this first step.

Mustang Forum users have also been known to do some innovative paint preparations. What are the techniques that you use?
