Roadster Shop Foxbody Mustang Spec Chassis

Roadster Shop’s new Spec chassis for the Foxbody Mustang is a total game changer, designed to be a bolt-in setup with many improvements vs OEM.

It may not seem like it, but the Foxbody Mustang is a pretty old vehicle at this point – decades old, in fact – and as such, we’re seeing values of nicer, lower-mile examples models begin to rise. The Foxbody Mustang has also long been a hot commodity among those looking to build a competent track machine, given the fact that it’s a fantastic basis for such things, whether that be turning corners or going fast in a straight line. Now, Roadster Shop is making that process – or just building a more modernized version of the Foxbody Mustang – a bit easier thanks to its new Spec chassis for that model.

Long known for offering Spec chassis setups for a variety of classic muscle cars and other older rides, Roadster Shop has now released a 100 percent bolt-in setup for the more modern pony car, too. The beauty of such an offering isn’t just the fact that it’s a 100 percent bolt-on kind of chassis that somebody can use to build a pretty amazing machine in their garage – it also addresses shortcomings in the original Ford design, too. It perfects the car’s stance while retaining a higher ground clearance for up to three-inch exhaust systems, with a small rake and room for tires as big as 255 up front and 285 in the rear, or up to 345+, albeit with a mini tub kit, as well as eliminate fender gap. The front and rear track widths have been designed so that they’re compatible with five-lug Foxbody aftermarket wheels, too.

The Spec chassis eliminates the factory front k-member and is designed in a way that optimizes camber, and doesn’t require any floor or body modifications to make it fit. It features an SLA independent front suspension setup, eliminating the factory strut towers and making more room in the engine bay, along with providing a superior suspension geometry, and replaces the parallel four-link rear suspension and 8.8 axle with the much-preferred 9-inch unit. Roadster Shop adds its own RSF2 forged aluminum spindle with a sealed bearing as well.

In terms of engines, the Roadster Shop Spec chassis enables Foxbody Mustang owners to go in one of several directions. The chassis is designed with exhaust and accessory fitments that allow for seamless integration with a variety of engine types – including the 5.0-liter Coyote V8, 7.3-liter Godzilla V8, or GM’s LS, LT, or small block Chevy V8s (though we obviously wouldn’t recommend doing something so sacrilegious). The brake lines were even designed to route through the chassis, making for a cleaner, less cluttered engine bay.

Despite the fact that we’re talking about putting a full chassis underneath a unibody car, the Roadster Shop Spec chassis actually weighs around 10 pounds less than all of the removed OEM components combined, which is truly impressive. Customers can choose from a bevy of options by heading over here, but the new Foxbody Mustang Roadster Shop Spec chassis starts out at $15,495 before you start checking boxes.
