Worst Mustang of every generation

There have been plenty of great Mustangs over the past 60+ years, but these seven represent the worst from every generation.

If we asked you to name your favorite Ford Mustang of all time, you could probably easily name several right off the top of your head. Maybe you love the brand-new Dark Horse, or a classic like the 1967 Shelby GT500. Perhaps a 2000 SVT Cobra R would make your list. But what if we asked you about the worst Mustang? What is the most disappointing Mustang of each generation? That is what we are discussing today.

We looked back through 60 years and seven generations of Ford Mustang and picked what we felt was the worst of the lot. The following is the list that we came up with. Do you agree with our choices? Would you pick other models? Of the seven cars we listed below, which do you think is the worst of them all?

First Generation – 1964 1/2 2.8L I-6 Thriftpower Mustang

1964.5 Mustang

We hate to nail the very first Mustang out of the box, but when we look at all the great first-generation Mustangs, we have to rank this one at the bottom. The base Mustang had a standard 170 cubic-inch inline-6 known as the “Thriftpower.” We prefer Mustangs to have nicknames like Terminator, Coyote, and Predator. Thriftpower, is exactly what it sounds like. A weak engine making a weak attempt at saving fuel. It made barely 100 horsepower and simply didn’t give the Mustang the type of performance it deserved. Considering cars like the GT350 were also part of the first generation, it was not difficult to name the Thirftpower as the worst.
