Six-cylinder Ford Mustang Beats a 5.0

Six-cylinder Ford Mustang Beats a 5.0

In a drag race, the driver is just as important —if not more— than the equipment.

Diehard big block Mustang fans make fun of V6 Mustangs — a lot. But when someone puts work in and makes one fast, we have to begrudgingly give credit where it’s is due. YouTuber CallMeMatt recently uploaded a video showing off his tuned 3.7-liter V6 Mustang lining up against a 5.0 on an unprepared eighth-mile track.

In his words, the event was set up like a street race, so no timing, but it’s clear from the video that CallMeMatt beat the 5.0 handily. While it’s an impressive feat for a 3.7-liter V6 car, it should be noted that the 5.0 left the gate pretty late. Still, despite being a short, straight-line race, the driver is a big part of the equation in drag racing. It’s clear that CallMeMatt was the better driver.

Also important is that it was CallMeMatt’s first run of the night. We’d say he did pretty well for his first run. Getting the holeshot on an unprepared track is an impressive feat, especially when you’re going in blind. We’d like to see what he could do behind the wheel of a real Mustang (sorry V6 guys, we had to get a dig in somewhere).

His second and final race of the night, against a Chevy Cobalt SS, also resulted in a victory. We speak from experience when we say that while those Cobalt SSs may not look impressive, they can be mega quick with some simple modifications. Owing to a long line, CallMeMatt decided to sit out the rest of the night and spectate, and with a respectable 2-0 record against some solid opponents, we can’t say we blame him.

3.7 V6 Mustang Beats 5.0 Mustang!

Unfortunately, not everyone’s night ended as well as CallMeMatt’s. He managed to capture a crash on film, and while it seems that everyone was fine, it’s a grim reminded that the street is no place to play — this could have been a whole lot worse.
