Want to Watch an Engine Get Cut in Half?

How many saw blades does it take to cut to the center of an engine?

Engines are incredibly strong pieces of machinery. Of course, they have to be strong to handle the combustion that occurs inside when your vehicle is running. So, when the father and son team over at What’s Inside? wanted to cut an engine in half, they knew it would be a pretty tough endeavor.

Obviously, the tools required to slice an engine in half are not going to be found at your local hardware store, so the duo took the engine to a local shop that is used to make rocket engines. There, they used a huge saw to attempt to slice the engine right down the middle. Unfortunately, it still wasn’t that simple. The first two blades couldn’t get very far at all before breaking. Then moving onto a thicker, stronger blade got them about 95% through the engine, but still not enough. Finally, they used a wedge and press system to pop it open.

No matter if you’ve worked on engines all your life, or you’re just an enthusiast that enjoys driving your Mustang fast, seeing a split engine is a pretty cool sight to behold. They finish the video by giving a little lesson on how the engines actually run, primarily because the video was sponsored by a motor oil company.

Overall, the video is a fun little experiment that proves that engines are really damn tough, and difficult to destroy, even when you are using huge machines to do it!
