Default Hood pins really necessary?

I've been looking into a few hoods, I like the GT-350H style hood alot but I'm not a big fan of the hood pins. Are they really necessary? Like if I don't install them will the hood go flying off or something? Or are they there just for looks?

If you are putting an after market hood on your vehicle i would use pins... do a search, there have been several recently losing their hoods... Just my opinion...

most aftermarket hoods are fiberglass, in turn, they flex... a lot. Pins are usually must to keep them at least pinned down.

If you like the Shelby GT-H (CS6) hood you can order it from hillbankmotorsports.com it fits both v6 and gt with no modifications. They say that the hood pins are not necessary for install, it is steel reinforced where it latches in front. I ordered mine with the pins though, (I like the look).

every dealer that I have seen selling aftermarket hoods pretty much say the same thing at the bottom of their ads, and that is they recommend the use of aftermarket pins.....plus if you look at the design of the mustang's front end and factor in the weight loss of the aftermarket fiberglass hoods vs. the stock hoods, the use of pins make alot of sense

good luck

Actually, you're gonna be adding weight if you go with an aftermarket fiberglass hood. The stock hoods are aluminum and only weigh 25 lbs. Most fiberglass hoods are weighing in between 35 and 50 lbs. Try asking some of the manufacturer's for the weights on their hoods.......you'll see what I mean. If you're looking to save weight, best thing you can do is stick with the stock hood.

I agree my Cervinis hood was def. heavier than my stock hood so there was no weight loss there, as far has hood pins yes you need them. As much as I wish it were not true I need them too, well if you wanna ever go above 90, at 90 I occasionally notice some shaking and flexing of the hood. The center where it latches is fine but is seems to flex up the corners.

Besides better safe than sorry.
