Default Need info on stock GT to V6 grille swap

I want to try to use a stock GT grille for the V6 swap. I know that there are threads that show how to use a Street Scene grille. Is there anyone that has done one with a stock grille. I understand that there are some size issues, but that it can be done. What trimming or adjustments need to be done to make it look good? Can you outline the process? I have looked at the available aftermarket grilles and I'm having trouble finding one that I like. It seems like there is always something 'not quite right' about them. Either the light spacing is different or they use some kind of non-standard material, or they have a weird colored horse, or something! I just want one that looks like a GT grille. I appreciate your help. Dave

Dave,

I know this isn't really an answer to your request, but have you seen this one? It's a GT-style grille that's a direct drop-in for a V6. I've done research on it myself and I'm leaning toward ordering this one.

Yes, I love that one. I called Performance Center, they said that I could order it without fogs and wiring. When it got here, the lights weren't positioned as shown in the picture. They were a little farther in, like the grilles on ebay. Installing the grille itself was a piece of cake. The hard part was the fact that the horns had to be relocated, the mounting location for the horn had to be cut off with a Sawzall and the wiring harness for the horn had to be extended. As far as the grille is concerned, I can't seem to find exactly what I want but this one doesn't look too bad, I think that I'll keep it. Thanks for your help, Dave

Wow, I wasn't aware that they required cutting and relocating things. Thanks for the heads-up. So how different was the grille than the picture? Were the fog lights butting up against the pony?

The fogs were in about halfway in between a GT and an Eleanor. I think that if you imagined all 4 lights evenly spaced, that would be close. They are not up against the pony. I would be interested to find out if anyone has installed a corral around the horse, on one of these grilles. A picture would be great.

I'm in the same boat as you. I've been searching all over for an OEM style GT grille that is a drop in fit on the V6. The ones that are molded like the factory grille have the light spacing off, and the only drop-in that I found that has the light spacing right is the Speed Scene one but I don't prefer it's design as well as having to deal with attaching the pony emblem.

I've come back full circle to getting the Ford OEM GT grille and making the modifications to the bumper to get it to mount in the V6 opening. Still mulling it over but if someone has another option I'm all ears.

Yea it sucks! Seems to me, the best looking grille is the one that's all over the place, the GT. I guess they didn't want it to fit because that would have been too easy!
