Targa Top
My car is going in for paintand repairs next week. The roof needs to be either replaced or filled in and repainted. I am considering converting it to a targa top. I was going to still have the top panel bolted down, not clipped in. Does anyone have a picture of what it looks like on the otherside of the headliner. I heard that there are just 2 header panels with a couple bolts in each. If this is the case then I could just modify the headliner and unbolt the bolts when i want to drive it with the top off. I understand that it won't be as strong but I won't be running it hard or racing with the top off. I'm not that stupid. I just want it off on Friday nights and nice days for a little cruising. If anyone has info on the underside of the headliner please let me know. Thanks!
Are you referring to the Glassback? First off, I was quoted $6,800 from the only shop within the state I live in that is authorized to do it. Plus I want to be able to remove the top.
You should look up bennihill and shoot him an email (he hasn't logged on in a while, so PM'ing him might not work). He cut his S197 roof to make a targa top (got a bit flamed for it too). He reinforced the car underneath, and you should ask him what he did exactly to compensate for the loss of roof support.
Ok, Thanks 28. I was just thinking if it's just held down by some bolts then I could just modify the headliner and lift the top panel off. I know it's bigger than most targa's, but it sure beats cutting the roof panel.
