im sure that i am like most of you in that when you decide to get a mod done you try to find pics or other mustangs that have that mod done to find out how hard it was to do, where the person got it from, ect, ect. that being said i want to get racing stripes on my car so i have been looking at all diff. kinds of mustangs and i noticed that there are two diff. types of racing stripes that come from the factory.
1. is just straight over the car and looks like it goes under the rear decklid badge.
2 the other is cut out around the 3rd brake light, and around the rear decklid badge.
and dont tell me that they are diff. types of mustangs bc ive seen V6,gt's, and shelbys w both types from the factory.
i was just wondering if anyone knew why this was.

It sounds like you are talking about LeMans stripes, which are two stripes front to back over the center of the car. To clarify, those types of stripes are not factory options on the V6 or GT. The Shelby GT and the GT500 (coupe only) come from the "factory" with LeMans stripes (I am 90% sure these are vinyl, not painted).

On new V6's and GT's that you've seen, they are probably dealer-installed options, which is fine. They are most likely vinyl, but some dealers will have them painted on to get a higher buck. There are different suppliers for vinyl stripes, and each one has their own way to handle the irregular surface areas on the Mustang (i.e. license plate recesses, 3rd brake light, faux gas cap, etc). Some LeMans stripes only go from the front edge of the hood to the top of the decklid, while others go over the bumpers too. They also come in different widths - 8", 10", and 12". It all depends on the manufacturer.
