removing two sided tape/residue
I have a Hurst emblem on the rear of the trunk lid just above the right rear brake light, and want to take it off. I can use fishing line to slice cleanly behind the emblem, but what's a good way to get rid of the remaining tape? I can just buff out any imperfections after that...

I'm like a broken record with this advice. If it works -and it should - would you post back so others that have the sameproblem removing sticker glue can try it too. Thanks.
Try EasyOff Oven cleaner. Spray it on. Let it do the work then rub off with a dry soft cloth. Any other glue residue - put a hair dryer to it set on high and rub off gently with your thumb nail.
Let us know if it worked.

I've seen a 3M product at one of my local autostores that's supposed to dissolve old tape. Can't remember what it's called though...
We had several vans wrapped with vinyl decals for our business that needed to be removed. The 3M product works best to remove adhesive. It's called appropriately enough, 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner LOL. It also works great to remove any tar or oil that gets on your paint and absolutely won't harm the finish. I do strongly recommend you wear protective gloves while using it because it contains a lot of nasty solvents in terms of health concerns.
I would definitely not recommendusing any oven cleaner because it typically contains very strong caustic ingredients such as sodium hydroxide. If it contacts any metal parts particularly aluminum, it could cause corrosion.

Well, the black adhesive holding the plastic emblem is really tough, and I couldn't get dental floss to go through it, much less try various paint-safe solvents to remove the residue. I'll stop and get fishing line tonight and try that to cut off the emblem, then get to work on the glue...thanks to all that have responded.

When I took off the Factory Spoiler, the 3M Tape residue was tough to get off. After several tries with goo gone type stuff, someone used a little rubber disc on a drill.....and in like a minute, it was just a memory.
