Default scratch removal

Has anyone tried to remove a scratch with an cordless electric drill and an attachment? I have a new car and do not want to invest in a portercable 7424. I figured If I keep the torque low and be careful I should be able to remove the scratch and not the paint. Of course I know nothing about detailing, so any input would be much appreciated.

i wouldnt do it if you have no experience. using a drill is kinda the same thing as using a rotary buffer. and if its not used right you can easily burn your paint(which is very bad) or leave buffer swirls. but if your want to make your stang look good a 7424 with some menzerna polishes will get it looking good. also check ebay the the 7424 ive seen a couple used ones on there for like 50 bucks if you dont want to spend much

this is what I do as long as the scratch has not completely chipped off the paint. I clean the scratched area. Then I rub rubbing compound on the spot, clean that. Then rub wax on it and clean it again as well. Hopefully if done properly, it would not be noticeable

The clearcoat on these cars is not very thick, maybe 1 mil.
I wouldnt do that because you may burn through.

Thanks for the info. I already tried scratch X and it did not seem to work. I will try again and put more effort into it.

I'm in the same boat, but I think I'm just gonna go with a professional detail. None of those things worked.

rub the back of you fingernail over the scratch and if you can feel the scratch, the only way you can get it all the way out is with a wetsand (usually), but scratchX will for sure not get it out.

I used this over the weekend for the very first time.

http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Orbita.../dp/B0009MGOXQ

I borrowed it from a friend and I was very pleased with the results. It took off most of my surface scratches including some that were accidentally put on by myself trying to do something at night

I used a terry cloth bonnet and waxed with zymol. It came out great and I had no second thoughts about doing it to my wife's car the very next day. It's so slow that you probably would have to sit in the same spot for like 5 minutes to cause damage
