Question for anyone who has put Shelby stripes on their Mustang. Would you save up the extra cash to have them painted on, or is it worth it to just put on the decals?

I'm going to have them painted on. For me the idea of decals that large and in a very visible location just seems a crappy way to go. I'd consider rocker panel decals though.

I am/was considering vinyl stripes, but here in the altitude of N. Colorado
I've seen some very "weathered" stickons, cracked and dry rotted from
either UV or poor material or both on the roof areas. Seems as though
there should be a protectant that would keep the vinyl from checking or
dry rotting. Any suggestions?

I just had mine painted for around $960 by a shop here in Rancho. I love the painted stripes but they may be a little hefty in price for some. As a side note, I have a full set of 10" blue stripes with 1/4 pinstripes that I'll sell to anyone for $75 shipped. 3m, bought them from Baltimore street mods a while back and never put them on. I got an 05 with vinyl strypes right from the dealership. The hood stripes are starting to get funky and discolor. I am totally bummed!!! But on the up side, now I can trade my shelby stripes for a super stripe. I think I will go vinyl again and sell the car before they start to mess up again.

My local guy quoted me $1,040 for the roof, hood and rear deck. They have to be wet sanded, stripes painted and then the entirepanels clear coated. For that it's a pretty good deal. I'm going to do the front and rear bumpers and spoiler myself because I can do them off the car. I hate painting anything too big in my garage because it's hard to do as good of a job as you can in a booth, but small removed peices are easy enough. He wanted another $1,000 for those three peices, so I'll save myself quite a bit as I already have plenty of clear and will just have to buyapint ofperformance white.

My vinyl is starting to look bad and I started to strip it off and want to get it painted. I think Vinyl has a limit to its longevity like 7 year vinyl on some I have seen. The vinyl on my car has only been on for 3 years and looks like crap unless you keep Ice polish on them all the time. Paint is the way to go for me.

I would say your best bet would be to have them painted on. The only good thing about vinyl is if you want a different look you can peel them off but if you leave them on too long it may be a little difficult to remove.
I do have the rocker decal that came with the Pony Package. I keep Aerospace 303 Protectant on it, plus I keep a car cover on it.

I had mine painted and was so relieved that I did. I had vinyl stripes before and the dealership totally messed it up. It was crooked and the gap spacing were off. Had them re-do it 3 times. It drove me insane looking at imperfection everyday but long story short,I saved up and got thestripes painted. Now, its greatknowing that my stripes are straight from bumper to bumper, and the measurements are dead on.
