20" Saleen wheels, but what tires?
Ok so i was interested in going with some 20" Black Saleen 7 spoke rims, because someone on the forum is offering a great pre-order pricing deal.
Now i don't know much about tires and rims and have a few questions.
I was wanting to run 20x9's up front and 20x10's in the back, however after reviewing tire options for 20x10's i decided $200+ a tire was no good. Now i found some 255/35/20's (Nitto) for $120ish each. I read that these will fit on 20x9's just fine. Would that be a good tire option to go with for 20s?
My tire option is very easy to work with, i live in SC, snow/ice free all year around. Only have to deal with rain here, so looking for the best performance in wet/dry, with mostly very hot summer temps. I'm pretty much looking for the best performance to price ratio. Doesn't need to be the best, just want a good tire for a good price.
I don't know how 20s work on a mustang, will there be any problems if i lower in the future? How much lowering can i do with 20s, because i would like to eventually replace shocks/struts, panhard bar, LCA, UCA, springs. I do not have the car lowered as of now, but in the future would like to, so keep that in mind on tire choices as well, that they would need to work when lowered.
What kind of performance difference is there between running all 20x9's, and running a staggered setup? Worth paying over $200 a tire to run 20x10's in the back?
I also have a tuner to change my speedo correctly, so trying to get near stock ride height to avoid having an off speedo is not an issue. Does anyone know exactly how i would go about adjusting the speedo after i put the new tires/rims on if i get them. I have a diablosport predator.
Also i have heard of people talking about harsh rides on 20s. What can i expect going from the stock 17s to 20s? I still have completely stock suspension. The roads where i live are not overly bad. Stang doesn't go down any dirt roads or anything. Are 20s fine for street driving/daily driving. I hear people talk about with larger rims blowing tires. Are there any problems with hitting small pot holes with 20s. I do sometimes go through very small holes in the road that translate to slight rumbling when driving over them. However i do not plow through any large holes. There is one road where i live im concerned about though. It has tons of patches down the whole road. Do ruff patches in the road, would that cause any tire problems.

you wouldnt notice that harsh of a ride with a 35 series sidewall...your ride starts 2 get harsh when u rubber band ur tires...running 30 series and smaller... the nittos are a favorite around here as well as the KDW 2's

I've run Nittos and KDW 2's 20's and they are excellent for the ride and traction. If you run 20x10's consider 295/35's ,the 275's are just a bit short, wide enough but lacks enough sidewall to handle hard twisties. You will get some feedback(roadthump) with 20's ,no getting around it.

I run 20x8.5 american racing razor wheels with the nitto 555 tire 255/35/20. I love the look of the new wheels. Some people say that 20" is too big of a wheel but it seems just about right. I definitely wouldn't go any bigger. These wheels lean more toward appearance as opposed to performance.
My suspension is completely stock. In terms of performance, I noticed that the car does not feel quite as quick under acceleration. This was only noticeable when I first put the wheels on. The ride seems the same to me and I don't notice anymore road noise.
I got a great deal on the tires from a local shop after shopping around with different shops and tire brands. I would have loved to go staggered but cannot justify the price at this point. I would have paid $200 for the rears and $115 for the fronts. I wanted to be able to rotate my tires. The Nittos perform great in the dry and wet. I'm sure there are better tires out there but I can't complain at this price.
One thing to note though. I did notice that it seemed to take more brake pedal pressure to stop the car and my brake pads wore down faster after I put the 20's on. I replaced the stock pads with Hawk HPS which seem to work a lot better.

285/30 rears and 255/35 fronts closest to stock as your gonna get, but i think saleen now runs a 305/30 rear tire. you can run 275/35 up front as well. jsust keep in mind saleen runs a slightly taller tire and recalibrates the comp for this.
when i had my 20s i ran bfg kdw's on it and they ride fairly well even for NYC streets. handle awesome too
