Weekend work question (Stripe install)
#11
Thanks!
It was a lot of work but not as hard as I thought it would have been.
I started with washing the car, removing the hood scoop and window washers from the hood. I used blue painters tape to find the ruff center of the car and then used a laser line to project the center of the car all the way along the body. Using the laser line maybe a little over kill but if you happen to have one I strongly suggest using it to guide with the installation.
Here are a few tricks I learned on the way:
1. Wrap the applicator that they provide you with a lint free cloth and keep the cloth damp. If you just use the applicator without the damp cloth you will cause scratches on the stripes.
2. When working out wrinkles or small bubbles with the heat gun, use your finger to gently rub the stripe flat. Pressing too hard will cause the stripe to stretch. About the same pressure you would use to rub your temple when you wife just paid $250 for shoes.
3. If you get a wrinkle that you cannot rub out, gently lift the stripe up and apply a little heat with the heat gun and remove the wrinkle.
4. Take your time… I know everyone says that but it’s REALLY true.
The rules that I broke:
1. I used a heat gun instead of a hair blow-dryer. I did this because my wife needed her hair dryer and I didn’t want to wait. Sad but true. If you do use a heat gun place it on the lowest setting (if it’s too hot for your skin it’s too hot for the stripes).
2. I did it all on my own, I waited too late to call friends to help me. Having another person even for moral support is helpful.
I’m not really good at this but I hope someone finds this information helpful. I would really like to thank everyone for their comments and support.

Looks great. I had mine done, but about 2 months after, I noticed that my Roush scoop was "rubbing" at the front tips. It has since caused the stripes on both sides to "bunch up" at those points. Can't really tell unless you are looking for it, or you are me and know it's there.
Again, Looks great.....

Looks great! I have a stripe install planned for after some hood work is done (SuperShaker )
How did you deal with the window washers? Did you pop them out and then punch them through the stripe later?
Also, did you have to remove the Sirius/GPS antenna, or was the 2" gap wide enough to not have the antenna become a problem?

I was worried about the hood scoop rubbing on the stripes as well. To combat this I went to Home Depot and got some high density foam weatherstripping for about $4. I attached it all around the edges of the scoop and then installed it on the car. So far I have had no issues.
If you would like I could take some close up pictures to show how it looks.
