Default What's the best way to remove the antenna ball?

After going through 2 shorty antenna's that broke, I've decided to mod one of the 2 stock antenna's I have. After trying to pry it off with some pliers and not being successfull, what are my options? I can tell I will definately have to spray paint it black when I'm done.

I put the antenna in a vice...length wise. I put the ball end of the antenna in the claw end of a hammer. Then proceeded to hit the hammer...with the antenna, with another hammer till the ball popped off. Hope this helps.

Google is your friend...

I used this procedure and it work great! The key is to put some tape over the ball as could be tough to locate once it comes loose.

I had little patience on both my stock and the g/f's stock antennas and ended up scoring the ***** so badly that I simply tossed 1 in the trash and kept the other "just in case", then found shorties on ebay for about $15.

after I chopped my antenna, I stuck the top part in a vice and then with a pair of pliers (wrapped the ball with a cloth first) I just yanked it off.

Putting it on was an easy affair as well. I used a grinder and ground off a bit so the ball could slip on, and then gave it a few good whacks with a hammer. No superglue necessary.

by far the easiest mod I've ever done. my gf said..."give me 15 minutes, I'm running late" and in that time I was able to not only do the mod, but also do a quick paint. Having a grinder definitely helps speed up the process tho.

Did mine last night (the aftermarket 14" antenna got bent somehow). Was an easy mod...used a bolt cutter to shorten the antenna.

I'm glad no one said they'd put a ball in a vise... that would be a painful vice.

I'd use my hacksaw.
