The '68 GTO had the first body-colored rubber bumper anywhere. It was made out of a material Pontiac referred to as "Endura". It was one piece, not a bumper cover. The '68 GTO ads had a guy slamming the bumper with a crow bar with no damage. Even though it's commonplace now, it was pretty innovative when it first came out.

The 70-71 barracuda had them too. Did the Trans Am have the same thing?
When I hit a dear with my Camaro a few years back, I was talking to the body guy about how impressed I was that the plastic front end didnt break at all, and he started talking about how when the endura front bumpers first came out with that ad with the guy whacking the front end of the GTO with the hammer that he was constantly having to repair them because so many guys were trying to show their friends how they could be hit with a hammer with no result.... Turns out you cant smash a car with a sledge hammer and NOT leave a mark, lol
