17's on the front, 18's on the back ?

Thanks for all the input guys, I do like the idea of 295/45/18, and then going with some 255/50/17's in the front when it's time for front tires. I really think this would look bad ***, but the only concern I have is the increase in diameter to 28.45" from 27.18. I don't want to diminish performance and take away from my 4.10's. How much will the 1.27" increase in diameter effect performance ? I could go with a 285/40/18 and stay real close with a 26.97" diameter, but I don't think it would look as good with the narrower side wall.

With 28.45" tires, your 4.10s would turn into 3.84s. I was thinking of going 295/45/18 before going with my 285/40/18. You could go 275/40/18 front and 285/40/18 rear but your handling may suffer a little. To make it easier, I would just get 18" all the way around and get 255/45/18 and 285/40/18. This is a common staggared set-up.

@silas
that is an option on the R/T...and Vettes...and several other high end cars.
I personally think the idea of 17" front and 18" rear can have real potential. but as previously mentioned, you'd need similar sidewall heights so the eye couldn't see the difference that easily.
but then you run into issues with the ABS and your PCM not reading the proper speed. Can you program the PCM to read 1 size tire up front, and a different size out back?
