Just a quick update, as promised.

The installer received the hood on Friday, he took a look and started prep today. We got the call this afternoon cause we asked for a update when he started prep. He said it is one of the better prepped hoods he has seen. So either were lucky at this point, they have gotten better with manufacturing process, or the installer isnt skilled enough to notice >.< lol, well see, it should be on tommorow, I'll try to get some pics and post impressions.

This is directly after spray, no sanding or buffing yet. Don't know WTF it was that they did to the front right there, maybe didn't give it enough dry time before he started trying to wet sand and realized it was still wet? I dunno, you tell me? lol.

overall the hood itself looked good. They seemed very happy with the prep on it, said it didn't take much at all and there was no waviness to it. There taking another day on it to make it look right cosmetically after that though...

Sorry pic is not so hot, I thought it wasnt bad for a first spray, and pic taken with a Black Berry. Looks better in person IMO. Aside from whatever they did on the right.

Hard to see imperfections (if any) on shots like that but it looks good from my computer.
The finger marks might be some dust, I wouldn't worry about it.

yeah, whenever they get it on, i'll take some better shots with a real camera. A few questions for the pro though.

Is it true your not supposed to use any product on a new painted item for 30 days? Like if we wax the car this weekend, show we skip the hood.

Also, is it true you cant bake fiberglass or whatever it is these hoods are made out of?

Side note, I was the one that took the pics in person, the the right front, just in front of the ram air inlet, that is in the paint. pretty rough whatever they did to it there. I know its minor and they could fix it, I just kinda wanted to know what they could have done that would cause that... lol

OK, no wax for 30 days but I stretch that to 2 months nowadays, because of the materials being cr@p.
Baking on fiberglass or CF, is fine as long as you lower the temperature.
You can't get it real hot, so it won't be as efficient as a metal part.

Well, if the marks are in the paint, they'll have to re-shoot this thing.
Someone touch that hood when it was wet, lol.

yeah looking at it, I'm gonna go with went to wet sand or something, realized it was scuffing and dragged his fingers back to take a look.... lol. Think I'm gonna try to go with my mom when she goes to have them mount it, if there is a blemish there I'm gonna call them on it. lucky for me I got the pick to show it was a error in prep. Thats if it gets that far anyway, far stretch from where were at now, guess well find out first how stand up a shop they are!

JDWalton, what's up with that lump just inside the right side scoop at the leading edge of the side wall? (on the left side of the picture) There's a pea-sized lump there, and a couple other ones on the front right at the bottom corner... I know I wouldn't be happy with that.

As for no waves, and it could just be from the clouds in the reflection messing with the phone cam, there's what appears to be a reflection of an electrical line running left to right (in the photo) just in front of the heat extractor. I don't expect it to be perfectly clear and smooth since the paint hasn't been cut/buffed, but there's a couple serious deviations in curve that cause me concern as well.

Pascal, how do you feel about painting carbon fiber hoods? How much harder or easier is it?

The lump inside that scoop is a run, I noticed a few more around the edges of the ram air vents. I assume they just had to spray that area real heavy to get good saturation down the vents.

I see what your talking about with how smooth that line is as well, but I didn't stop to look at the reflection, as at this point I was not carring about the paint quality, I got down and was looking at eye level across the top of the hood looking for physical indents or raised spots, looked all right.

Well see how it looks when they try to give it to us. I did just show up unannounced, and this was sitting there as it is, and they said it wasn't ready yet, so I'm not ready to hang them out to dry, unless they try to give it to us like that. lol
