I read somewhere that you have to get hoodpins on all after market hoods for safety reasons.

Here's a cleaner option that's available:

http://www.aerocatch.com/index.php

Used on some Rolex series GT cars so they've got racing cred. This is what I'll be using on my aftermarket hood (which I'll be buying as soon as the paint finishes peeling off this darn aluminum hood).

/\ Yea what Betty said, all the safety, without breaking up the lines of the car.

It seems like there's a lot of people out there that say that...

But I've had plenty of runs down I-4 going a mile or two going a little faster than the posted speed limit and I've had no worries about this hood flying up in my face. For the $500 bucks that aftermarket hoods start at, the connection from the hood better be top quality. I've inspected my hood latch and it seems just as strong, if not stronger, than the stock aluminum's.

I'm sure you can buy a hood that comes without the ability to tie in to the stock latching mechanism and you'd have to buy hood pins or come across a crappy brand of hood where it's clear that the manufacturer had no idea what they were doing. But if you buy from a reputable manufacturer (big brand names) then I wouldn't worry.

My perception is that most of the failures from these hoods flying up onto windshields are due to human error (not taking the time to make sure they closed the hood properly to latch the hood down), then going on a 90+ jaunt.

I don't believe they're needed. Whether you get them or not is between you and your preferences.

I got them because I have horrible hood flutter that no matter how much I adjusted the bump stops, nothing fixed it. So for me I got them for peace of mind.

I think I'm gonna go with the hoodpins. The comment "hoodpins make it look like your car has to much power for the stock hood" sold me lol. Now to achieve that power.....

Ill post pics when its done
