Default 09 Vista Roof sunshade fix

Hey everyone,

I got my 09 GT just over a month ago, and it has the glass Vista Roof option. Recently, the shade mechanism broke. I took down the headliner and removed the whole shade unit, but I can not for the life of me figure out how to fix it. I can't seem to get the series of string and pulleys to make the shade roll back up work, and for the price of a new shade unit, I could buy a tuner or CAI. Is there anyone out there that has any experience with this? I don't really need a shade for almost $400, I'd rather go without one, but it would be nice if I could figure it out.

Thanks a lot!

I have the same prob sunshade on my glasstop exploded in my hand. I have opened and closed this shade maybe 6x's since 09.

Went to the local dealer and he's like sorry can't help car is 2 mos out of warranty and to call customer care, I stated the car has only 5300 miles, I still get sorry can't help.

Figured screw it, went to the parts dept to see about ordering this shade, Parts guy tells me its $501. They do have an updated part#9R3Z63519A02.

F-that went home and opened a case with Ford so we shall see...Started building and pricing a 2013 GT500. I'll keep you posted on both

Thanks a lot for your input. That's basically what happened to me, I bought the car used with about 4500 miles on it, and around 6000 the thing just came apart. I'd love to be able somehow make it my own with a custom shade, or maybe put some LED interior lighting in the space that the shade roller was if I can't figure out how to fix the shade. I found the part online for $376.24, but I'm still not paying that for this crappy shade.

Mine failed when about 6mo old. Dealer had to take the glass roof off to install the replacement shade.

I removed the shade just by partially taking down the headliner, I'm not sure why they'd remove the glass to replace it, because its only about 4 screws from the inside. If I could get the part cheap, if replace it. I just wish the whole thing wasn't so flimsy.

I don't have the Vista Roof but your idea of getting it tinted instead of forking out $$$$ for replacing it is a great idea!
