Hey guys, I have an 06 yellow GT. The previous owner had the front bumper and hood repainted due to the frequent highway mileage he accumulated back and forth to work, which resulted in plenty of rock chips. It's an outstanding job and no one I have spoken to has noticed unless i told them, however, I want it to be perfect.

The hood seems to have a very slight issue with the clear coating. Upon waxing and polishing the car you could see that the fenders look beautiful but the hood has a slight less shine.

Not really sure what to do. I heard that a very fine grit wet sanding job may solve it. But I'm not sure if that's correct. Any suggestions?

 

Well it sounds like they need a good machine polish but be careful if u never have used one I would recommend a shop they can cut the paint and make your clear coat glass

 

Autogeek.com has several products you could try, but I personally could not take sand paper to my paint. If I cannot fix the problem with my PC 7424XP and pad/product combinations, I leave it to the professionals.

 

Yeah I may leave I to a trusty shop I don't like dealing with paint issues to begin with, although I have lightly wet sanded before with my corvette hood and of course my fathers help. He's like a pro with anything idk how he does it lmao.

And BAB do you have any recommended products to try out?

 

Wet sand with 2000 grit and buff.
That'll bring the shine right back.

 

thats exactly what i heard almost. if i do that though, would i have to apply a clear coat or something? im would guess that the wet sanding takes some clearcoat away

 

No re-clear is needed...
The 2000 grit is so fine that it won't take much clear off anyway.
You do that procedure to get rid of the contaminated film on the top...
The buffin' just bring the shine back.
