Ever changed out your rear decklid badge?
here is a question i have since i have run in to this particular problem before...
when you are ready to change out your stock rear badge for a different badge, the roush badge for example, you first need to remove the stock emblem...
we all say this is accomplished with use of fishing line....after you have remove the stock badge, you can see that the tape that held the badge on is made of a kind of cushiony, foamy, black double sided tape....you note the material...
you take your new roush rear badge replacement out of the package, turn it over to look at the back, you see the paper that is covering the double sided tape that is already installed on the back of it so all you have to do is remove the paper and apply the badge to your vehicle (after cleaning the other badges' residue from the car of course)...
well you remove the paper, you notice that the tape that is on the back of the new badge isnt cushiony and foamy tape like what was on the stock badge, you notice the tape of the new badge to be thinner in comparision to the stock badge...you note this finding...
well you apply the new badge to your car anyways and after pressing it on and making sure it has good contact, you notice that the newly applied badge edges arent complately flush against the decklid....the top and the bottom middle areas of the badge is flush agaisnt the lid, but the left and right middle edges arent, there is a small space left....
you think back at how the stock badge looked perfectly flush against the lid because it had the foamy tape....
is there a reason for this other than the obvious or did i just get a bad badge for that round?
im asking this because i am changing the badge out again for a different badge and the tape on the back of the newest badge is the same thin type of tape....
am i missing something or do i have to do what i did last time and just buy a roll of tape from walmart and apply small squares to the back of the new badge?
THE NEW BADGES SHOULD JUST COME WITH THE SAME FOAMY TAPE LIKE THE KIND USED ON STOCK BADGES, SHEESH!!!

okay, i installed the new badge this morning....the new badge was a 2009 roush rear decklid emblem....
before mounting it, i laid it over where it would be installed and noticed a very small pace between the left and right edges, when the top and bottom edges were flush....
to correct this, all i did was apply 1 small strip of thin double sided tape on each side and it mounted perfectly with contact all the way around....
the job went flawlessly...i will get a pic up tomorrow!

Thats because the area where you are installing the badge is slightly curved.
No amounts of tape will correct a perfectly flat emblem to lay perfectly flat
against a slightly curved surface. The gap will always be uneven in appearance.
Lay the OEM Faux Gas Cap on a perfectly flat surface such as a sheet of plate glass.
Notice how its curved to match the curve of the rear deck lid area?
The front fender badges are also slightly curved.

all u need is 1 strip on each side....if you put more than 1 on each side, you will elevate the badge too much and the top and bottom edges wont have good contact...
you are 100% correct....the only option you have is to get the thin double sided tape and put 2 small strips (1 strip on each side on the back) to fill in that gap and make up for the curved decklid and the flat badge....

you are 100% correct....
I did this with my Roush Louvers and they dont trap dirt or water
as much if they were not spaced out the thickness of one piece
of 3M emblem tape.
