Spare Tire useless???
This might just be one of my patented dumb question but will the spare tire be useless now that I have 20inch wheels? Will the car be too lopsided if I get a flat and have to throw that donut on there? Can I just throw away that spare? I mean I have only used the spare once in my 7 years of driving...Would love to get rid of the spare and the weight of it... But I fear that then the weight would be all in the front even more so and the back would be rather light... I would have to put my girlfriends mother in the trunk to even out the weight
ok ok that was wrong... hehe.. another reason I wanted to chuck the spare was because I wanted to put the subs and amp on the trunk bed but I cant if the spare is there... thoughts??

I think you could be the guinea pig on this one... swap one of your wheels for the spare and see how it feels/handles... you may find that a AAA membership is the way to go. My guess is that you could limp to the nearest repair place with just about anything...
i woudlnt say it would be useless in the event of a flat... think about it. If you get a flat you can do 1 of 3 things. You can run it with the flat 20" which woudl dent the f#*k out of your new rims... you can run it with nothing there- f#*king up your axle every time you go around a turn... or you can put the spare on and you will rock but you wont have a ****ed up expensive wheel or axle
The OEM 17 tire is 27.1" your 20's I bet are pretty close. I don't see any issue, car will be only slightly lopsided and likely no more than OEM expectations; that is normal design for it's temp use. And by temp use you can drive 60mph for a few hundred miles w/o a worry. I wouldn't buy AAA unless you can come up with another reason. What is the mfg diam on the 20's? heck it could be less than the OEM with that "oh so limited" sidewall you have.
How much do you think the spare weighs? 20-30lbs? Significant enough to make a difference in times?
I like the idea of sticking a sub in there, though! That'd be kickass if done with style.

Actually Fairlane you make a good point.. Didnt really think about it... The rim diameter increases but my tire height decreases making it almost the exact same overall size as my oem wheel... hmmm.....
the weight of the sub and the amp would merely replace the weight of the spare... but i think a custom sub install would be siiiick in the trunk bed... i already have a few ideas drawn up... only problem is i would be f*$^ in the unlikely even of a flat.... how much is AAA a year? maybe i should just leave the spare in my garage and just call up my house if i get a flat to have someone bring it to me

Isnt towing insurance on your cars insurance dirt cheap? I would think thats the way to go.
If your car is lowered you prolly cant get the factory spare under the car anyway, especially if one is flat. Just a thought.
