Default HID lights

Hi, I am really interested in getting HIDs for my car. I remember a couple weeks ago somebody posted pictures of their HIDs, and they were literally beams comming out of them. Anyways, I was wondering if anywaybody knows who that person was, or if YOU (the guy with the beams) are reading this, can you help me out?

thanks

ps. if you are wondering if you have seen the pictures of this guy's lights, you probably didn't, because they were crazy

Is this a whole light assembly or is it just the bulb's. I tried a 2 sets of bulbs ($50ea) because the first set didn't work. The right side kept going off. Sent them back, got another set, same deal. After checking into it a little deeper, the HID bulbs are 90 watts (I think) and the stock bulbs are something like 45 and 55 watts. The guy selling the bulbs said that basically, my car didn't like them. More than likely it was drawing more amps than the stock wiring could handle. One other thing, I talked to a guy a Ford and he said that if the bulbs did anything bad, the warranty on the electrical system would be voided. I put the old bulbs back in. On the other hand, if this is a whole assembly, they might work great with no issues.

sidmanic,
It sounds like you were installing just higher wattage halogens advertised as HID (they are not HID). HID's require several parts to function at all. One important and absolutely necessary part is a ballast. This converts 12 volts to the 10,000 plus volts needed to run true HID arc bulbs. And if you indeed did have the ballast and everything, it still won't work on the new Mustangs because of the diagnostics and computer system. An HID kit on our cars needs to be hard-wired to the battery or junction/fuse box and then you need to use relays to keep your stock headlight switch active. If you hook HID's direct to the stock headlight wiring, they either won't light at all on the passenger side, or they will flicker on the passenger side or both. Only the better HID kit providers out there know about this issue. The best I've found is Saleen who includes a custom harness. Another is XenonKing.com. Make sure you tell XenonKing that you have a new Mustang and they will provide a generic wiring harness with the kit. You will probably have to mod this harness's lengths to make it fit right though. And you will definitely have to either splice into the factory harness, run new wires or jerry-rig connections to the stock harness to make your headlight switch switch the HID's. With the Saleen kit and harness, this isn't necessary because their harness has all factory-type connectors to hook it's relays to the factory headlight wiring. The only custom job with the Saleen is plugging the passnger-side headlight connector which will not be used with Saleen's kit.

Good Luck.

PS, I'll try to post pics when I install my Saleen kit next week.

I've got the McCULLOCH 6000K HID kit installed on my GT, this is one of the only pics I've taken of the car with the HID lights on though. I can try to get some other shots tonight and post them. Got some other NICE goodies installed on the car yesterday, so it's time to take some more pictures anyways!

Here's a link to a site that offers HID conversion with both high and low beam functionality. Most of the HID kits are for high beam only. The Saleen is dual functionality and this is a kit that is about half the price. Also, there have been many that state that HIDs are a hotter temp set-up, wrong! An Hid burns a lot cooler and draws about the same current if not less. Just an FYI. I'm considering this upgrade once I have the buckets of my lights color matched to my vehicle.

If you convert to HID's and use the factory buckets... Won't your buckets melt from the additional heat?

PW, actually no, they are cooler than the OEM bulbs. The Saleen uses the same bucket and they have no problems. I heard somewhere they put of the heat of a 25watt bulb. Hard too believe, but that's what the experts say. Also, they draw less current than the standard bulbs with the balast system that is connected. (the little box that comes with the setup.) I think I read some specs about HIDs on Sylvania's site.
