Intakes messing up AMS?
Heard this the other day from a guy at work...are the cold air intakes i.e., Steeda, K&N, etc...messing up the Air Mass Sensor? He wasn't able to give me a reason. Anyone else hear of this? If you have an intake feel free to leave your opinion on it as well. I'm looking in the next little while.

The Mass Air Sensor.... An what does he mean by "messing it up?"
My best guess is that he means putting on a CAI messes up how well a new Mustang runs. He would be right about this. The computers in the 05 and 06 for the most part do not have the capability like in past years to recalibrate themselves for aftermarket parts. That is why you see so many CAI's being sold with handheld tuners/programmers to adjust the fuel delivery to compensate for the extra air being added to the system.
The only way the extra air would "mess" things up is if you didn't program/tune and ran your car lean for too long . And even if you do tune but run WOT or at high speeds (90+) for extended periods of time (hours at a time) you can also fry out the MAS.

I suppose the oil could foul the sensor if it was dripping when you put it on and go b@ll$ out, but there is no way it should if you apply it correctly. A lot of people, when they re-oil after cleaning, over-oil the filter. You need very little of the oil to do it correctly (very light application and fully dry before driving). In normal conditions, the bottle that comes in the recharge kit should last the life of the car easy.
