Today I was sitting in my car waiting for somebody and i had the engine running, then after a few minutes i decided to turn it off but keep the car on, but about 5 seconds after i turned it off, the CEL turned on. However, when i turned the engine on again, the light went off and the car was running normally.

Does this happen to a lot of people? I have had anoter instance where the CEL flashed at me for a couple seconds but did not get it checked out, people just said it was probably misfires though.

I don't think it's anything to worry about... It might turn on by default whenever you put the key in position, but don't crank it over... If you're really worried about it, take it to a shop... I hear on the radio all the time that places are "checking engine lights" for free... I don't know what the catch is, but it's an option... and plus of course you can always take it to the dealership and have them tell you. Though honestly, I don't think there is a problem.

 

It is probably just because the key is in ACC and the engine is off. nothing to worry about if it turns off when the car is on

 

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's always lit up when the car's on and the engine isn't running.
