Tire Pressures.

Tire Pressures.
I'm just a little curious.
I realize lowering the tire pressures in the rear of the car enables you to maximize the grip of the tire, and give it more of a flat surface.
Though what I can't seem to understand is why people add to their front tires? Is it basically to tilt the car and thus putting more of the weight to the rear of the car to grab more traction or is it something else?
I'm still new to the whole drag racing thing, so again don't go throwing spears or anything.
Thanks,
Menace.

RE: Tire Pressures.
I have tried several differnt pressures in the rear and find 22lbs to work the best. At 20 I get wheelhop even with my suspension mods. People keep the front pressure high to reduce drag. Always just leave mine at 35psi. I guess it might make a very minute difference.

RE: Tire Pressures.
I did notice an improvement by lowering to 22lbs. My 60 ft time was better and less launch spin. I have full race LCA's and Panhard. Just ordered my Steeda 3rd link and Steeda Frame Rail & Torque Box Brace (3-Point). Can't wait for the brown truck to pull up! Now for the e.t.streets!
As for the fronts, you are right Randy. That why people run the skinnys on the front.

RE: Tire Pressures.
with the stock pirelli's my 60' went from 2.01 to 1.84 just by lowering the rear air pressure to 23psi. raising the fronts probably doesn't do much but i figure every little bit helps. front air pressure is very critical when dealing with rollout for reaction times though. if you redlight too much lower the fronts 5-10 lbs. or so and try that. the opposite is true if you are late on the tree...just up them 5-10lbs. larger diameter tires will give more rollout and also improve e.t.'s. you may notice some NHRA stock eliminator class cars running 28" tall or taller front tires(skinnies). this is almost always done to improve e.t. since they run on an index and every thousandth of a second counts for them.
