Thats what it is all about, giving your kids what you couldn't afford to get...IMO

in that case, i hope my kids shoot me in the head.

That car looks GREAT - - but it actually has a 190ci Stright 6 Cyl under the hood!
i was gonna mention something that would relate to that lol, the front suspension the springs are too stiff. probobly made for a V8 (when restoring people assume its all the same and buy springs for a old stang with a 5L for example.. the springs are related to the engines weight so that it has proper ride height.. when i bought my 1970 vert it had springs for a stang with a 351.. i swapd out the spring for the ones actaully used with 5L in those years and now the front end sits properly..

My parents could never afford to buy me a car. I think that's one of the reasons I'm so proud of what I have now.

Agreed!

Case in point, I grew up poor (well, slightly lower than middle class) and I bought my first car with my own money when I was 20 or 21. It was a 5-6 year old Hyundai Excel. I loved that car and treated it like a Queen.

Now, I'm 31, have my own business and I spoil myself but have learned that money doesn't grow on trees (I know, I know, its cliche)

I guess I'll say something too. First off, I always hate it when people who have more just pass off anything anyone says about it as 'whining'. I was one of the poor kids in high school, and when you're a car guy it's really hard to go to school in a POS and see everyone else's shiny new sports cars, especially if they're always revving their engines at you or laughing or whatever. I will never just buy my (future) kids a nice car, never. Maybe I'll buy them some crap car to get to school/work or whatever, but if they want to show off to their friends/teachers/whatever, they're gonna have to work for it. I'll probably be willing to help them get a loan and stuff, MAYBE help with a down payment, but everything else they can pay for. Which is fair, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is how many of the kids in high school have nice cars, I worked all through high school as well (close to full time), but without being able to get a loan, your options are limited heh.

So yeah, handing nice things to kids is kinda dumb, imo, but helping them get what they want is ok.

However, having a car like in the OP is just retarded. Why? Because high school kids suck at driving. Yeah, I know, YOU were an ace driver, and the kid with the car in the OP probably is too, but MOST of them aren't. They're always rear-ending each other, bumping into each other while parking etc. No, not every single car get's hit, but the chances are much too high to risk a car like that.

Not to be a smarta$$ or anything, but aren't you more concerned about your (future) kids safety than the car?

One of the plus sides of having a nice new car is the safety. I don't think it really matter's what car a teenager drives because we are still going to speed, and with a POS car the chances of getting seriously injured in a minor accident are much greater than getting injured if you were in a car that was safer.

IMO, when I grow up I will buy my kids a safe car (even if it is really expensive), even if they deserve it or not.

Heh, probably. That's more about teaching them to be a responsible driver though, since any car can be dangerous. If it's someone elses fault then there's not much you can do other than what you said and get them a safe car.

But hey, I don't have kids so I can talk all I want and not have to follow up on it

Hey, If the parents are in the financial position to buy a nice car for their kids then thats fine. I would If I knew my son or daughter were responsible mature young adults, if I had the money that is.

My sons (7 and 9) are already planning to have really sweet rides when they're 16, and those plans involve getting a junker when they're about 14 and putting about two years of TLC in before they get behind the wheel. Although, lately, the older one is starting to tell me I should consider replacing my 2005 Mustang with a brand new 2013 and letting him take my "old car" which he already volunteers to wash and wax.
Either way I'm sure some school adminstrator will decide they're spoiled brats when they finally get on the road.

Why is anyone judging here? We dont know anything about the kid at the school besides the fact that he drives a nice car so why does anyone call him spoiled? When I have my license I'll be able to pick every morning between an Audi a6, my '67, or a 944. Yeah I'm spoiled but I also own my own business and appreciate the things I have. Why do people who are less fortunate than others so often think it's necessary to call those people who are doing better names? Yeah, I'm gonna have a fun ride to my Private School every morning but when I get back my dad wont be here, nor will he be until about 9...at which point he will hook up his laptop and continue working. So I have something a lot of you dont have but you have (or had) something that I dont. Just because one is shinier than the other doesnt mean it's more important. Stop being so bitter and jealous and get over it. If you want that car so bad then stop sitting on your *** on this computer, go get a REAL job and buy it from the kid.

P.S. I'm 15 if it matters
